Persona Non Grata is a lecture performance that unravels unfamiliar narratives of women to which the South Korean public has paid relatively little attention. The lecturer—or the performer—delivers her lecture in the form of speech, photographs, video, etc., during which numerous theatrical devices–sound, acting, narration, etc–intervene, providing an immersive experience unavailable in the conventional academic environment. Persona Non Gratapresents different voices, all of which represent a rupture in the abstract category of woman in popular imagination. These are the voices of queer women, immigrants, refugees, and sex workers, whose voices went unheard within the mainstream feminist narrative. On the stage where heterogeneous references are made and cross, these voices tell their stories, which continuously overlap one another. The video on view is a combined and edited footages of the actual performance as well as the rehearsal.The voices in Persona Non Grata provides a clue to a new aesthetic concept coming from the format that traverses the boundaries of “the threefold representation”—the representation of representation of representation. “representation” is a loaded term subject to a wide range of discussions. Representation is linked to memory as well.

<Persona Non Grata/환영받지 못하는 자(2018)>는 한국에 비교적 소개되지 않고 익숙하지 않은 여성 이야기를 ‘렉쳐 퍼포먼스’의형식으로 풀어낸다. 강연자(이자공연자)는 강의 내용을 연설, 사진, 영상 등을 이용하여 전달하지만, 이 사이에다양한 연극적 장치—음악, 배우의연기, 나레이션등—들 또한 개입한다. 이러한 장치들은 관객들이 학술적 환경에서의 방식과는 다른 형태로 몰입할 수 있는 조건을 만들어준다. ‘Persona Non Grata/환영받지 못하는 자’에서는 여럿의 목소리가 출연하는데, 이들은 모두 일반적으로 상상되는 ‘여성’이라는 추상적 범주에 균열을 낸다. 퀴어, 이민자, 난민, 성노동자등 주류 혹은 대중적인 여성 서사에서 쉽게 들리지않았던 목소리들이다. 이질적인 참조점들이 호명되고 교차하는 공연의 장에서, 이들은 각자의 목소리로 관객에게 이야기를 들려주며, 이 목소리들은 계속해서 중첩된다. 전시되는 영상은 공연 전 리허설과 공연 당시의 라이브 상황이 교묘하게 섞여 편집된 형태로 제시된다. ‘Persona Non Grata’영상 속 화자들은 ‘재현의 재현의 재현이라는3중 구조’의 경계를  넘나드는 형식을 통해 퍼포먼스(극)와 영상언어에서의 재현성과 그로 인해 새롭게 재발견 되는 미학 개념에 대한 단서를 제공한다.  “representation”이라는단어가 재현,  표상,  대표 등을 망라한다는 점을 생각해보면 흥미로운 지점이다. 재현은 기억과도 맞닿아 있다.
